Interesting find: Twisted Tail Bourbon Bar.
Specializes in grilled food with a Southern touch which is interesting since the chef is Mexican and the owner a Brit.
My first task was…should I start with a glass of wine or a cocktail. I chose the latter and the devils tail…bourbon, pedro ximênez, bitters and absinthe hit the ball out of the park.
The menu isn’t extensive but has plenty to choose from. I was torn between the pork belly (things go better with pork) and shrimp and grits. Considering the other options, and a bit of direction from the wait staff, I went with the grits and added cornbread and asparagus. It did not disappoint. While the grits could have used a bit more salt the cornbread made up for that. While it was slightly sweet it was delicious. As expected, the asparagus was straight off the grill and also excellent.
Dessert anyone? Of course I saved room!. Could not pass up the beignets with bourbon caramel sauce…just like NO but with a bourbon twist. A dessert wine? Why not again go with a recommendation of the service staff…0nce again, related to bourbon but this time a red wine blend aged 3 months in bourbon whiskey barrels. Not at all sweet but despite that it paired well with the beignets.
Did I mention the “Juke Joint” which is upstairs? You gotta check it out! Another bar with live Delta Blues every Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Very happy place even if you don’t dance so make the effort to enjoy the space.
Outdoor dining is also available.
Service was excellent.
