Son visiting daughter in Vancouver = quick trip north: The Oakwood.
Great spot in the Kits area for brunch or dinner…our daughter thinks the burgers are outstanding but this visit we had brunch.
Very comfortable space with a wood burning fireplace which makes it all the more inviting on a chilly rainy day.
The menu is a takeoff on classics but with a twist…..pork belly with cheddar scrambled eggs….really bacon and eggs but with a side of fried polenta….basically Italian for grits and a corn salsa. The tuna confit was good but not as expected…missed the confit somewhere. Highlight of that dish was the crispy chickpeas….gave it a very nice crunchiness. Eggs Benedict came served with ham hock and a lime/dill flavored hollandaise which was all fairly typical. Â Finally the frittata served with a very nicely done gremolata.
Cocktail selections were good as were the offered coffee drinks…but be forewarned…no espresso machine!
Will have to return for dinner…the menu looks equally good.
