Wines on tap: The Hatch.
Located in the downtown 13th Street area of the city which has multiple options to choose from, this option looked interesting: offering wines, whiskeys…….extensive offerings….and a wood fired rotisserie. The space is in an historic brick building and is a cozy spot for singles at the bar, couples or a larger group.
Described as comfort food, the menu includes small plates and daily specials along with standards such as meatloaf and roasted chicken. We started with a few small plates for the table including the beets….served on a bed of pistachio butter, mushrooms and Brussel sprouts. All were good but I’m partial to beets so my nod goes there.
We visited on a Wednesday night and the special was baby back ribs….only 5 left when we arrived, so I made a quick decision to snag one of them….and I wasn’t disappointed. The sauce was sweet, spicy and delicious and the pork……perfectly cooked and falling off the bone, as required. Wine choice…on tap….was a central coast Rhône type GSM blend which was quite good.
Dessert was the Blondie….walnut ice cream served atop a blonde brownie made of candied praline. Interesting, but the the “brownie” was a bit heavy and on the dry side. Could have been improved with a few more scoops of the ice cream which was delicious.
Service was excellent and informed.
