Pizza in south Birmingham: Pizzeria GM.
First off, they have a pizza oven…not wood fired but a nice oven and the service could not have been better or more pleasant.
The pizza was very good but if you’re looking for a Neapolitan type crust with charred edges I didn’t find that here although the patriarch hails from Naples. It’s close but I think the problem is how hot the oven gets wood fired vs. gas fired. Seems like the hotter oven gets things done in 60 to 90 seconds which produces that thin, light and lightly charred crust.
The space is inviting with a large open kitchen and nice bar area.
They also have a more formal Italian restaurant as well.
