Another option in Brera: il Cestino.
Also recommended by our hotel staff. Corner space and a great place to watch the world go by while having a bit of Italian fare. As is typical in this part of Milan, it’s busy during dinner so make a reservation if you plan a visit after 8 pm.
They had just gotten the first porcini mushrooms the night we visited so the menu was heavy on that fungus.
Started with the carpaccio with raw porcini. Something was missing from the dish….a bit of salt would have helped but I’m not sure it could have been resurrected even with that condiment. As typical of our dining experiences while in Milan, we got an unordered (free) salad to balance the table for 2. That add was much better than my choice and was served with grilled polpo……octopus. Excellent….and made all the better by the price paid!
Mains included risotto with shrimp and porcini and turbot with….you guessed it porcini. Both were quite good with a nod to the risotto. Ended with vin santo…served in the classic way with biscotti and tiramisu….excellent. Once again, we weren’t allowed to leave without the obligatory, but unordered, limoncello.
Overall this spot wasn’t quite up to Osteria di Brera but it was close.
Service was a bit slow.
