Italian near UW: Mamma Melina.
I’ve been here several times……including when it was located in the U District but it’s been a while since my last visit.
The special part of this place is the large and inviting alfresco dining area which is a great place to soak up some sun….when it’s sunny in Seattle.
The lunch special included a choice of a starter….I chose the beets which were good but not that flavorful and followed this with the salsiccia con polenta. This was a real hit….house made, slightly spicy grilled sausage served on a bed of gorgonzola polenta with a marsala reduction which was unbelievably flavorful and made the dish all the more wonderful. Overall, this experience was better than what I recall of past visits.
The wine was a very nice Nebiolo.
Service was good.
