Off the tourist path: Les Faux Bourgeois Bistro.
As I’ve mentioned in previous post, our daughter lives in Vancouver so we get to experience more of the local culture than your average tourist visiting downtown VAN. This place is in that vein.
The focus on cuisine is…French with typical classic offerings. Expect French onion soup, various salads, mussels, duck, beef and chicken. Basically all the food groups are covered.
My choice was the cassoulet which was delicious but I couldn’t finish the dish because I couldn’t pass on the pâté de campagne appetizer. It was pork based and who can pass on that! I will say it was quite mild and not as rich as I had expected. I also got a bite of the steak frites which was classic and quite flavorful.
For dessert…another classic, crème brûlée which was paired with a tawny port. Odd, but no sauterne was offered.
The wine list is old world…French and new world…BC.
Service was excellent.
