One of those special places: Le Colonial.
I’ve been here once before several years ago and vowed to return.
This is a special place with a beautiful space….like returning to a French bistro in Saigon of the 1950s.
This was an experience with a large party and a fixed menu (which I selected) but once again it did not disappoint. I don’t think you can make a bad choice here…wonderful flavors with multiple layers.
Standouts from the first course were the ca bam xuc banh trang….wok seared monkfish with chili turmeric and a side of sesame seed crackers and the goi ga xoai….grilled chicken and mango with a cucumber & tamarind dressing.
Standouts from the main course selections were the ca nuong….grilled salmon with greens and a dill and ginger-lime garlic fish sauce….excellent and the banh pho xao….wide rice noodles with beef and a garlic chili sauce…rich with an interesting blend of multiple flavors.
hen a cleansing of the palate….raspberry and blood orange sorbet…a perfect ending.
The wines were of course French…a red from ventoux and a white blend from the same area.
