Another option for a locally sourced meal with a lively atmosphere. This was a group dinner but there were several selections from the regular menu which makes my assessment a bit easier.
Started with the crab and Asian pear salad which was very nice and the dressing, even though it was lemon based, was quite good. I’m not a big lemon fan….a bit tart for me….but its tartness was toned down a bit by mint in the dressing and the side of creamed avocado which also made the salad richer and removed most of the tartness.
Followed this with my main selection….the duck breast. Presented with roasted butternut squash which were made slightly sweet…..sweet potato like….by the roasting process. They were a nice addition to the duck which is always helped by a bit of sweetness. The breast were served properly cooked to a medium rare. Others had the yellowfin tuna and the sirloin steak which looked good but were quite large portions. The most interesting looking dish was the vegan selection: an English pea and risotto croquette with fiddlehead ferns and pickled vegetables.Â
Dessert was…..chocolate again…..a torte with vanilla ice cream. Very rich chocolate…..like eating a softened whole bar of dark chocolate. I also tasted the vegan avocado coconut ice cream with lemon ginger cake…..all a bit too tart for my taste.
Service for our large party was good…they did mix up several of our orders but got them straight in the end. The space has high ceilings but the noise level was acceptable. Wine for the night was a light French Rhone.
