Italian: Centro.
Located in the West End on Denman Street, it opened a couple of months ago. Described as modern Italian, the space is a bit retro…..think mid century modern.
Menu choices run the gamut from salads to antipasti to pasta (made in house) to secundo of lamb and seafood. The menu, while a bit limited in the number of choices, doesn’t appear to be an issue since everything we tried was outstanding. If you are with a group try a bit of everything and share. Menu choices are well suited to sharing….like Spanish tapas only Italian.
We started with the flat bread with duck, pear and gorgonzola….very good. Followed this with 2 pasta dishes. First up was the capellini with clams, smoked salmon, and prawns in a vodka rosé sauce. Outstanding dish made all the better by the smoked salmon. Next up was the linguini prawns picante…light and refreshing but a very slight nod goes to the capellini. We shared a main….sockeye salmon….the “pesto” was wonderful.
Finished with a classic….done differently. Tiaramisu. Very nice with a bit of a unique presentation.
Service was excellent.
