Happy Hour: Cafe Pettirosso.
We were out doing some shopping on Capitol Hill and our first choice was closed for a private party. We weren’t that hungry and this place sounded interesting and was open for happy hour so how much more could you want. It’s located in the Chophouse Row area in a building that is more than 100 years old. The space feels comfortable, like a well worn shoe.
How to describe the food….upscale comfort food comes to mind but doesn’t quite describe it….Ranges from gochujang BBQ lamb sliders to mac and cheese to soup.
Our choices were the lamb sliders….delicious, hand cut French fries…tasted more like pommes frites and the clams….nicely done in a white wine garlic broth. The wine list is very approachable with by the glass prices in the 9 to $11 range for whites and reds. We had a nice Argentinian Malbec.
Another choice, if you are looking for a quicker option, is the espresso stand as you walk in which is made all the better by the bakery items to also choose from.
Service was friendly and expedient.
