Passing through: Bird and The Bottle.
We were on the way to a wedding and needed something before our road trip north. Nice space with a deck overlooking a busy street. Despite that, it was a pleasant spot for a quick lunch outdoors. The menu is one of small plates so most things are designed to be shared. It is a bit eclectic ranging from mac n cheese to matzah ball soup to soft shell crab BLT. There’s something for everyone so have a few to get the real experience.
We started with chicken fried oyster wraps…..delicious with a “tartar” sauce that was perfectly balanced. The lettuce wraps made the dish. Next up was the soft shell crab BLT which were also very good. We finished with pastrami tacos….I told you it was eclectic! These were fantastic…..housemade tacos and pastrami with a very nice pickled mustard seed topping.
Had to have dessert….even without room to finish the tacos….just to try a bit of everything. The choice was strawberries with Lebanese cream cheese. Apparently it was the last serving for the current menu….and the strawberries looked a bit tired. Good flavors but…..the strawberries were a distraction.
Wine was a Rosé of Grenache from the Dry Creek Valley which was a bit acidic but light and refreshing on a warm day.
Service was excellent.
