A neighborhood find: Bar Susu.
Located at the juncture of East and West Vancouver, it’s a bit off the tourist routes which makes it all the more appealing.
How best to describe it? Farm/sea to table so the menu changes based on availability.
While the wine menu isn’t extensive, it’s extremely interesting and well curated. PetNat with a focus on old and new world…think BC. As you know, I’m always looking for interesting orange wines and they hit the jackpot with a classic Georgian example called Pheasant’s Tears made from the rkatsiteli varietal. The wine was excellent; as expected from a country with 6000 years of experience. Beautiful color with slight effervescence. Bold citrus and red cherries with a spiciness on the tongue.
How about the food? Another place where you can’t go wrong with anything on the menu. If it’s available you have to have the Sacillian crudo. Unbelievable. Next must have…roasted carrots. The sauce is exceptional.
Attentive service.
