The 3rd restaurant: Sandía
Saint Helens is no more. Bistro Shirlee is no more. However, this one may be the best of the three. I’m sad to see the loss of Shirlee but this is a 180 degree remake of the former. The space is the same, including the deck area and fire pit. It remains a great space for a quick drink, a stop for refreshments on your bicycle ride down the Burke Gilman or, the full monty…dinner.
The menu is now described as modern Mexican. The food is Mexican and the names are the same but what arrives is not what you would expect. Very bright, fresh and pleasing to the eye.
Choices run the gamut from chips and guacamole to tacos to tamales to burritos. A special nod to the machete salad and the shrimp tostada. As mentioned, expect unique presentations…check out the flan.
As expected, cocktails and beer were headliners. What about the wine list? They didn’t have one the night we visited. Seemed to have a number of choices but short of walking the short distance from our table to the bar it was a bit of a guessing game.
Service was friendly and menu suggestions were spot on.
