Classic BBQ: Dreamland Birmingham
This is one of the more famous BBQ pork sources in Alabama and it all started in a cinderblock building in Tuscaloosa. That location is a classic space with Tide memorability on all the walls and originally only one thing on the menu….pork ribs. All you needed to tell them was how many slabs you wanted. The bread choice was only one…sliced white bread…think Wonder Bread.
Fast forward about 30 years and they have added more choices to their menu….chicken, baked beans, potato salad, coleslaw and mac and cheese among others. There are a number of locations including Atlanta but only one original. The sauce is on the spicy side and vinegar/mustard based. My choice is to mix this sauce with Full Moon which is sweet and tomato based. The best of two worlds!
The Birmingham location is in a 1920s era building and is a classic with the open pit inside the restaurant.
