Ever what you need: Puako General Store
If you are staying in the Kohala area of the Big Island, check this place out for provisions and treats. It’s about a mile off highway 19 and just south of the Mauna Kea Beach Hotel. They have the locally famous Tropical Dreams Ice Cream from Waimea….high in butter fat and therefore very rich. So, there is really no need to drive all the way to Hawi to experience this delight.
You can also pick up a quick prepared meal…breakfast, lunch or dinner….most locally made. If you have a chance, you must have a macadamia nut tart…..made by the Hawaii Tart Company…….from south Kona via St Louis…..delicious. Also check out the Moku Pops from Kamuela. They come in multiple flavors and of course my favorite is?…….Kona Coffee.
Believe it or not, it’s also a grocery store…..so if you need provisions it’s a great place to stock up. Keep in mind that it is a small place…don’t think Safeway or QFC….so they have most things but the selection is a bit limited, as one would expect.
