A new old place: El Gaucho.
It’s been a number of years since my last visit…and it’s not where it used to be! So, make sure you go to the new location on Western Ave and look carefully since it’s not that obvious from the street. This is a classic steak and seafood place with a dark ambiance with live piano music in the background. Not your typical Seattle dining experience.
Another dinner for 2o but we were ordering off the regular menu so the experience, while not like a more private experience, nonetheless, I can make a reasonable assessment of the food and experience.
We started with appetizers. First up were the Wicked Shrimp…very tasty and followed with the Tenderloin Diablo. Nod goes to the shrimp. Salads were next and my choice was the Classic Wedge…indeed classic and quite good. My entrée…what, no salmon…in Seattle! Yep…out of salmon so I ordered the halibut. But wait, about 15 minutes later the wait staff approached me again to ask if I still wanted the salmon…they had an extra portion. So, salmon it was. A nice piece of King but just a bit over cooked in my opinion. Sides included the Lobster Mashed Potatoes…excellent, the Crispy Brussel Sprouts…as expected and the Roasted Sweet Corn…also excellent.
Nice wine list by the glass. The list leans new world. If you want to go big, they have a bottle for you. Want to really splurge? How about a 1996 Château Lafite Rothschild at $2700 a bottle. I’ll take one, if someone else is buying.
Excellent service as expected in this type of restaurant.
